Clifford Law Offices received a $10 million verdict Tuesday, March 27, 2012, on behalf of a family of a 21-year-old woman who was killed in her apartment building on Chicago’s north side.

Colin Dunn, associate at the firm, obtained the verdict following a week-long trial in Cook County Circuit Court against the building’s management company, owner and the killer who is now serving a 50-year-sentence in an Illinois penitentiary.  Below is the statement that the sister of Melissa Dorner, killed in 2005, made to the press on behalf of  the family involving this terrible tragedy:

Statement of the Family of Melissa Dorner

We want to express our gratitude to our lawyers at Clifford Law Offices and the
jury. It’s been seven years since Melissa was brutally murdered in her
apartment. We know that no amount of money will bring her back to us, but we
hope that this lawsuit will make building owners reassess their policies and
procedures for screening prospective tenants and ensure that those procedures
are followed. Thank you.

and in the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin also ran an extensive story on the $10 million verdict. And the story was one of the top topics in Cook County news wire.

Television stations also covered the story, with Jeffrey Goldblatt, reporter for Channel 5, plus stories on Fox News and Channel 7.

The city mourns with the Dorner family on their terrible loss.
