Keith Hebeisen Settles Med Mal Case for $2 Million; Bringing His Week's Total to Over $11 Million in Settlements

Press Release, 10/26/2007

Keith A. Hebeisen, partner at Clifford Law Offices, today (Friday, Oct. 26) settled a case for $2 million on behalf of the family of an infant who died when doctors and medical personnel failed to perform a timely cesarean section.

Zachary Meyer died after doctors and nurses at Lake Forest Hospital ignored fetal monitoring strips that indicated he was clearly in distress.  He died four days later from severe brain damage that resulted from a lack of oxygen.   Zachary’s twin sister survived.

“The Meyer family will never be the same without Zachary,” Hebeisen said after the settlement was entered.  “After waiting for twins and dreaming of a life of two children growing up together, this tragic mistake on the part of the hospital and doctor has left the Meyer family with a hole in the hearts that cannot be filled.  This settlement demonstrates accountability for the medical negligence that hopefully will never happen again.”

Susan A. Capra, partner at Clifford Law Offices, assisted in the settlement of this matter. The Order approving the settlement was entered Friday by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Hogan.
