Robert A. Clifford, senior partner, and Richard F. Burke, partner at Clifford Law Offices, obtained an $11 million settlement on behalf of the driver of a car rear-ended by a semi-tractor trailer truck.
A man was struck from behind at a red light by a fully loaded tractor trailer truck traveling about 46 miles per hour. Upon impact, his car burst into flames and the driver had to be rescued from the burning vehicle by passing motorists. The 55-year-old suffered extensive burn injuries over his torso, scalp and face as well as head injuries resulting in permanent cognitive and neurological impairment. He is confined to a residential nursing facility and requires round-the-clock care and assistance.
“The severity of this crash and the extent of the injuries are a stark reminder of the devastation that can result from any collision involving massively powerful semi-tractor trailer trucks that surround us on every roadway,” Clifford said.
The settlement was reached just weeks from a trial that would have been held in federal court in Chicago.
