Courtney A. Berlin and Devin J. Piper have joined Clifford Law Offices as associates.
Berlin, a recent graduate of DePaul University College of Law, clerked at the firm for the last year. She received her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. Her previous work experience includes interning at an Illinois State’s Attorneys’ office as well as various defense litigation firms.
Berlin already served as a third chair on a trial team at the firm for a medical malpractice case which resulted in an $11 million settlement and has worked on motions involving the 2019 crash of a Boeing jet that founder and senior partner Robert A. Clifford is Lead Counsel in federal district court.
She is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Chicago Bar Association, American Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Berlin also was a member of the Jaharis Health Law Institute throughout law school as well as served on the DePaul Journal of Health Care Law and as the Authorities Editor for the 2022-2023 DePaul Journal of Health Care Law.
Piper is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law where he graduated cum laude. Among other cases on which he is working at Clifford Law Offices, he is part of the trial team on a medical malpractice case in Cook County involving failure to diagnose and treat hypertension that led to a stroke.
He was a part of the law school’s trial advocacy mock trial team where he competed nationally in Houston, Texas, in March. He currently serves as a coach for the law school’s 2023 trial advocacy team that will be competing nationally at UCLA School of Law in November.
Piper has clerked at Clifford Law Offices since 2022. Prior to that, his experience included clerking for the Hon. Bridget Hughes of the Circuit Court of Cook County and as an intern in the State’s Attorneys’ Offices in Champaign and St. Clair counties. He received his B.A. at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.
Piper served as Vice President of the American Constitution Society and is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Corporate Law Society, Future Trial Attorneys Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and American Bar Association.
