Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner of Clifford Law Offices, was once again named to Crain’s Who’s Who in Chicago Business in 2024, considered to be “the ultimate guide to power in Chicago.”
The publication named 20 lawyers among the 400 top business leaders in Chicago. Clifford was named one of the top attorneys of “The Names You Need to Know.”
First published in 2017, the Crain’s Who’s Who distinction recognizes Chicago’s most esteemed leaders in business, law, art, government, health care, cultural institutions, and nonprofits. Crain’s Who’s Who honorees are selected by the publication’s editorial team and are determined based on their achievements and contributions to the city of Chicago.
Clifford Law Offices is an internationally recognized plaintiffs’ trial firm concentrating in aviation, transportation, personal injury, medical negligence, product liability law, mass torts, and class actions. Over the last four decades, Mr. Clifford has built a firm with a reputation for providing fair and just legal representation in the Chicago area and across the United States and, indeed, the world. He has been recognized by multiple associations and publications for his professionalism and unmatched service to the legal profession. Currently, he serves as Lead Counsel in the pending litigation in federal district court in Chicago regarding the crash of a Boeing 737 MAX8 in Ethiopia nearly five years ago that killed all 157 on board. The firm represents some 70 victims aboard that ill-fated flight with families from 35 different countries.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Clifford is dedicated to the growth of the legal profession through his involvement and leadership roles with multiple legal associations and regularly gives back to the Chicago community through philanthropic work that benefits families, arts, education, and public safety. His firm offers free continuing legal education (CLE) to attorneys across five states with programs garnering more than 5,000 registrants, considered to be the largest CLE in the country.
When asked by Crain’s what keeps him grounded, he responded, “My wife of 50 years, Joan, keeps my life balanced. She makes sure that I get enough family time to do the things we enjoy. My daughter Erin, a partner at the firm who also holds a master’s degree from Northwestern in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, makes sure to coach me on my work-life balance to keep healthy and fit to do a stressful job each day. And my daughter Tracy makes sure I spend enough time with my two young grandsons, who always keep me on my toes.”
