At Least 15 People Hurt in CTA Crash on Chicago’s Near North Side

At least 15 people were sent to area hospitals following a Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 23, 2019) crash between a CTA bus and a Mercedes on the border of Chicago’s Goose Island and River West neighborhoods on Chicago’s near North Side.

The ages and conditions of 13 people on the bus were unknown. The two occupants of the Mercedes reportedly were critically injured and were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The bus that was heading west was pictured crashed into a pole.

CTA Route 66 buses and other traffic were being re-routed throughout the afternoon to avoid the crash scene. The incident occurred on Chicago Avenue just east of Peoria Street, according to media reports.

The Chicago Police Department Major Accidents Investigation Unit reportedly is investigating the crash.
