Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner at Clifford Law Offices, is taking on the defense as he presents opening statements in the re-trial of Sacco and Vanzetti at the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Litigation Annual Meeting in New Orleans Wednesday (April 15, 2015).

Clifford will put on a demonstration of an opening argument in the real high-profile case of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian immigrants who were convicted of killing a guard and another man at a shoe factory in Massachusetts in 1920. After a few hours of deliberation, both men were convicted in 1921 by a jury and following a series of appeals were executed by the electric chair in 1927. Their case drew worldwide attention following recanted testimony, conflicting ballistic evidence and pre-trial prejudicial statements by the jury foreman as well as a confession by an alleged third person.

The Hon. Mark A. Drummond of the Circuit Court for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Illinois will preside over this portion of the trial. The training will cover topics including case analysis, theory of the case, civility and other important parts of a trial. The Litigation Institute for Trial Training is presenting this program.

The ABA program is a one-day boot camp training lawyers from around the United States that will be held in a courtroom for the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans.
