Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Steve Dickson will meet with about 50 international regulators from around the world to a briefing on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 on the status of the Boeing 737 Max8 in Montreal, Canada. The meeting reportedly is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. (EST) at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), 800 Rue du Square-Victoria, Montreal.
Just prior to this meeting, Dickson is scheduled to meet with family members from Canada who lost loved ones in the March 10 crash of a Boeing Max8 jet in Ethiopia. That meeting is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. (EST) at the ICAO International Civil Aviation Organization, 999 Robert-Bourassa, Montreal, Canada, across the street from the IATA.
The regulators’ meeting, which is not open to the public or the press, reportedly is taking place in connection with the International Civil Aviation Organization World (ICAO) Aviation Forum. Dickson, who was sworn in last month as head of the FAA by U.S. Department of Secretary Elaine Chao, reportedly called for this meeting with airline regulators from around the world.
Two of the family members from Canada who lost loved ones in the crash of the 737 Max8 in Ethiopia will be standing outside in front of the IATA building starting at 3:30 p.m. (EST) during the regulators’ closed-door meeting. They will be holding pictures of their family members who died in the crash as well as photos of many of the other 157 people who lost their lives. They will be addressing the press at that time.
Paul Njoroge, who lost his wife, three small children and mother in law, and Chris Moore, who lost his 24-year-old daughter, in the crash in Ethiopia will be available to speak to the press. The 737 Max8 fleet has been grounded worldwide since shortly after the second crash of the airliner on March 10 in Ethiopia, the second such crash in five months of the newly-designed plane.
