The 27th Annual Clifford Tort Symposium on Tort Law and Social Policy attracted more than 1,300 attendees from 335 cities and reached 7 countries around the world including France, Pakistan, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
The annual symposium brings lawyers, judges and academia together via webinar that results in a special law review edition published by the DePaul University College of Law. It has the most cited law reviews in the area of tort law and civil justice in the country.
The 2021 Symposium topic was “Civil Litigation in a Post-COVID World.”
“I’m so proud that this program has grown to the level of recognition in the area of tort law around the country,” said Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner of Clifford Law Offices who endowed the faculty chair in 1994. “An enormous amount of work and thought goes into these hours of programming, and it is gratifying to know that the legal community is listening and learning.” Other programs over the years have included “Patient Safety: How Might the Law Help”. “The Impact of Dark Money on Judicial Elections and Judicial Behavior,” and: How Might the Law Help?”, “The Impact of Dark Money on Judicial Elections and Judicial Behavior,” and “The Opioid Crisis: Where Do We Go From Here?”
Some of the 2021 speakers included Professor Shari Diamond, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law; Nora Freeman Engstrom and Robert Rabin, professors at Stanford Law School; Professor Jennifer Robbernnolt at the University of Illinois College of Law, and the Hon. Lorna Schofield, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. DePaul Law School Professor Stephan Landsman has served as Chair and Director of the symposium for the past 25 years.
