Courts Must Go Forward During COVID-19

Courts Must go Forward During COVID-19For his October 2020 column in Chicago Lawyer Magazine, Robert Clifford, Senior Partner at Clifford Law Offices, wrote an article titled, “Courts Must Go Forward.”

In his article, Clifford discusses the different ways courts are holding trials during the unprecedented time of COVID-19 in order to prioritize safety while preserving the rights of individuals seeking their day in court.

Clifford explains the Valdivia v. Menard Inc. ruling made by a federal court in June. This ruling states that although an in-person deposition cannot be compelled, there is no prejudice to either party when a deposition is taken remotely, meaning that virtual trials are a legal and viable option for the time being.
