Dr. Kenneth C. Chessick, Of Counsel at Clifford Law Offices, has been selected as the 21st Annual Francis X. Riley Lecturer on Professionalism at Northern Illinois University College of Law.
“Professionalism and Ethics in Medicine, Business and the Law: Are They Different?” is the topic of Dr. Chessick’s speech at his alma mater 3 p.m. April 4 in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom. Dr. Chessick, a board certified surgeon, also is a trial lawyer who has made a mark in the area of fighting for patients’ rights in medical malpractice cases for the past three decades. He was honored at NIU with the Alumnus of the Year Award in 2001 and in 2012 as the NIU Law Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. He has endowed academic scholarships for law students as part of the Kenneth C. Chessick Civil Justice Endowed Scholarship Program and his generosity to the school led to the opening last year of the Kenneth and Ellen Chessick Practice Center, a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility for student athletes.
This lecture series brings distinguished speakers to NIU to discuss current issues relating to the legal profession as well as honoring the legacy of Professor Emeritus Riley who devoted his life to the law and legal education until he passed away at the age of 93 in 2006. Previous speakers have been the Hon. Marvin E. Aspen of the Northern District of Illinois, the Hon. Abner J. Mikva, the Hon. Thomas L. Kilbride of the Illinois Supreme Court and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
