Leading International Aviation Attorney Reacts to Latest Helicopter Tragedy

Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner of Clifford Law Offices, reacted vehemently to the aviation disaster on Thursday, April 10, 2025 when six people perished in a helicopter that fell from the sky in New York’s Hudson River, killing all six people on board.

“Once again, innocent victims perished in a preventable and needless aviation disaster. The Federal Aviation Administration is not doing its job! The FAA needs to do more to protect the traveling public, Americans, and welcome visitors alike. Companies that transport innocent passengers need to be held accountable and punished for their lack of due diligence in safely transporting families.”

Several videos captured the tour helicopter’s detaching rotor while everyone plunged into the icy waters below in the out-of-control aircraft. The helicopter was identified as a single-engine Bell 206 helicopter reportedly operated by sightseeing company New York Helicopter.

“The loss of life in yet another aviation disaster that we will soon find out how preventable it was degrades public confidence in transportation by air.” Clifford said. “The NTSB said it has made recommendations in this area before, and the FAA – the entity that must enforce these regulations – simply refuses to act. We can no longer have paralysis when it comes to passenger safety. The flying public is looking for a proactive FAA to prevent these tragedies.”

Clifford was in federal District Court Monday, April 7 in Chicago reporting on the latest settlements in the Boeing crash of a 737 MAX8 jet six years ago. The next trial is set for July 14 before US District Court Judge Jorge Alonso involving victims of that tragic crash, the commercial jet in Ethiopia.
