In the latest Chicago Lawyer publication, “Where’s the Line?” Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner at Clifford Law Offices, explains how consumers can pursue product liability claims when the defendant is out-of-state.
A 2021 case out of the United States Supreme Court provides a simple, straightforward, common sense approach for consumers who are harmed by products marketed in their home state but manufactured in another state. Non-resident defendants cannot dodge jurisdiction in product liability cases where they clearly conduct business and proactively reach out to consumers outside of where the product is made.
