Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner of Clifford Law Offices, along with Patrick Fitzgerald of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Zachary Fardon, Managing Partner at King & Spalding, and Emily Nicklin of Kirkland & Ellis, have been selected as co-chairs of the 200th Anniversary Fundraising Committee of the Northern District of Illinois.

Sponsored by the not-for-profit Northern District of Illinois Court Historical Association, the festivities are expected to take place in March, 2019, and will include the showing of a historical documentary film that will highlight significant cases, societal issues and key people who have been an integral part of the 200-year history of the federal court in Illinois.

The documentary episodic film will be shown at interactive kiosks at the court’s new museum display at the Dirksen Courthouse in Chicago that opened May 1 and also at schools, community groups and local media outlets. Various artifacts, art, documents and other memorabilia also will be a part of the museum located at 219 S. Dearborn. Chief Judge Ruben Castillo presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony where former Chief Judges Marvin E. Aspen and Charles P. Kocoras and U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer gave remarks.

Among the key cases being highlighted in the documentary involve, civil rights public corruption and organized crime including the famous trial of mob boss Al Capone, the Greylord Cook County judicial corruption trials and the trials of four Illinois governors.

The museum also offers space to host lectures, which are also planned to celebrate the 200th anniversary next year.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois covers 18 counties in northern Illinois covering an area of more than 10,000 miles with a population of 9.3 million and is consistently among the three busiest federal trial courts in the country. The Courthouses exist in Chicago and Rockford. The court has 22 authorized district judgeships.
