Seventeen people were injured on Saturday, June 22, 2019 when a staircase collapsed at Scott Colona Family Park in Colona, Il, near the Quad Cities.
The media reported that at least six fire departments including the Colona Fire Department, the Illinois State Police and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene to take 17 people to area hospitals. They ranged in age from seniors to people in their 20’s who all had toppled on top of each other due to the collapse.
Seventy-five people had gathered for a photo for the family’s 18-year reunion on the two-story deck staircase when it came crashing down at the Scott Family Park campground.
Law enforcement reportedly is investigating what caused the collapse.
This porch collapse incident marks almost to the day the June 29, 2003 porch collapse tragedy in Chicago when a porch balcony gave way during a party, killing 13 people and injuring 57 others. Clifford Law Offices represented a number of those victims who were injured or the families of those who were killed and ultimately led to a tightening of Chicago ordinances and greater inspection of porches attached to buildings.
